Newcastle United have jumped to the top of the race to sign Brazilian prodigy Vitor Roque.
The report comes from Spain, where the Catalan publication Mundo Deportivo published a small item about the 18-year-old’s future today.
Barcelona has long been regarded as the leading contender for this deal, but their pursuit is suddenly being met with skepticism in the local media.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona’s pursuit of the teenager “becomes increasingly complicated” because, in addition to Arsenal and Chelsea, Newcastle is now interested in signing him.
The Magpies are thought to have already made a bid that might outbid the Gunners and Blues, who are already known to have greater financial resources than Barcelona.
The journal only notes one weakness that Newcastle allegedly has, which is a lack of’sporting capacity,’ implying that Vitor Roque may compete for bigger things at other clubs.
It’s stated that the boy will have a voice in his transfer, so even though Barça ‘can’t compete’ with the hefty bids, they’re still hoping to persuade him. That is why they are not ruling out a trip to Brazil to meet with him.
Now that his club Athletico Paranaense has agreed to sell to the highest bidder, Newcastle appear to be in a good position, but we’ll have to wait and see.
