Newcastle United at the verge of closing in Monaco standing defender this summer

Newcastle United are reportedly getting closer to signing Axel Disasi from Monaco.

Eddie Howe will concentrate on getting his players ready to fight in the Champions League after confirming the Magpies’ first participation in the league since the 2002/03 season.

The northeast side is closing in on the 25-year-old, who may offer firepower to the backline, according to reports earlier this week.

Could Axel Disasi join Newcastle United?

According to FootballTransfers, Disasi has ‘confirmed personal terms’ with Newcastle regarding a summer transfer.

According to the report, the Ligue 1 club is expecting an offer in the range of €40m-€50m (£34m-£43m) for the defender, who has become a key figure in their back line.

Manchester United has also been mentioned as a Premier League club interested in the Frenchman.

How talented is Axel Disasi?

With Jamal Lascelles’ future in doubt, Howe must add depth to his back line after uncovering his preferred central defensive partnership in Sven Botman and Fabian Schar.

The Englishman might gain more than simply squad numbers by bringing in Disasi, who is one of the most well-known defenders in Ligue 1 and could compete to enhance the quality of performance between the preferred duo.

According to Sofascore, in 38 Ligue 1 games for Monaco, the 25-year-old contributed nine clean sheets while also showing some form in the final third by scoring three and assisting three.
