Garang Kuol is set to join Hearts on loan for the remainder of the season.
Newcastle United is nearing completion of Garang Kuol’s six-month loan move to Hearts in the Scottish Premiership.
The young forward agreed to join the Jam Tarts earlier this week after visiting Edinburgh last Thursday for face-to-face negotiations and a tour of their training facilities.
A number of teams have expressed interest in Kuol, who represented Australia against France and Argentina in the Qatar World Cup.
Hearts, who already have three Australians on their books, have won the race, and manager Robbie Neilson hopes Kuol’s move may be finalized before Friday’s league match against St Mirren.
“We’re simply working on papers right now to attempt to get it done,” Neilson added. I’m not sure if it’ll be finished by Friday. It would be fantastic if we could, but we’ll have to wait and see.”
Following his move from A-League side Central Coast Mariners, Newcastle manager Eddie Howe stated last week that the club was looking for the “perfect home” for Kuol.
The 18-year-old enters with enormous promise following a breakout year in 2022.
Kuol scored six times and provided four assists in 17 appearances for the Mariners, as well as becoming the youngest player to feature in the World Cup knockout stages since Pele in 1958.
“Players go on loan for a variety of reasons, and this would be to get experience and learn a lot about British football,” Howe explained.
“We really like him and we want him to find a home where coaches will develop him and enhance him, he’s still young so naturally he’s got elements of his game that require work.
“However, we hope that experience will serve us in the long run.”
