Newcastle United are interested in signing Atalanta forward Rasmus Hojlund following his impressive debut in Italy.
According to Tutto Atalanta, the Magpies have joined the list of clubs interested in the Danish teenager.
Eddie Howe will almost certainly want to add more attacking talent to his squad next summer.
With European football on the horizon, his squad will require another upgrade.
Record-breaking signing
At St. James’ Park, Alexander Isak appears to have found his stride.
Injuries have hampered his first season on Tyneside, but he was outstanding in the games preceding the international break.
Callum Wilson‘s form has suffered since being named to England’s World Cup squad last year.
He also has a poor injury record, and Howe may be looking to bring in a more consistent fit forward.
Rasmus Hojlund might fit the bill, and Newcastle is interested in signing the young Dane.
He’s had a fantastic season and performed admirably on the international stage last week.
He scored a first-half brace against Kazakhstan yesterday after scoring a hat-trick against Finland.
‘The outstanding performances of the young Nerazzurri striker are also attracting the attention of many Premier League teams, where Arsenal, Newcastle, and United seem more than ready to make Percassi’s club rich again,’ according to Tutto Atalanta.
‘Atalanta values their jewel at least $40 million [£35 million] and is eager to hold an auction.’
Gian Piero Gasperini, his current manager, is a huge fan of the 19-year-old.
“He has extraordinary margins, and his evolution in recent months has been incredible,” Gasperini said.
“He has an incredible generosity and a burning desire to succeed.” [Hojlund] He has the potential to be a top striker in the future; at the age of 19, he is already upending the Italian league.”
As the report suggests, it’s not just Newcastle that want to add Hojlund to the squad this summer.
Manchester United and Arsenal are both interested, and the Gunners have sent scouts to observe the forward, who has been compared to Erling Haaland.
Hojlund isn’t as prolific as Haaland yet, but he’s arguably a better playmaker.
He’s a strong dribbler with a keen eye for a pass, as well as a fantastic finisher.
If Newcastle wins the race to sign the teenager, it will signal the club’s growing clout in the transfer market.
