Newcastle United and Italy midfielder Sandro Tonali is expected to denounce himself in the betting scandal.
Il Messaggero (via TMW) have reported today that Tonali will denounce himself in front of Prosecutor Giuseppe Chine, with the meeting expected to take place next week. Denouncing himself will allow Tonali to seek a plea bargain in the future, which will lead to the reduction of a ban.
The way Nicolo Fagioli dealt with his situation proved to be crucial, as the midfielder managed to confess everything to the Prosecutor and also helped in the process of the investigation. Because of that, Fagioli’s suspension will be reduced and he could now get a ban of only less than a year.
Tonali is now likely to follow suit and this will lead to his potential ban also being reduced, but it remains to be seen whether the ex-Milan man also helps in the investigation.
Previously, Tonali had admitted to his family and agents that he had engaged only in poker and blackjack but evidence about his involvement in betting was also later found.
