Newcastle will turn down the chance to sign Roma’s Roger Ibanez in favor of a move for Crystal Palace’s Joachim Andersen, according to Mark Douglas of the ipaper.
He claims that Newcastle has been offered the Brazilian center-back for around £30 million, but Eddie Howe has prioritized a move for Andersen.
The 27-year-old has been linked multiple times in the last month. The Eagles are said to be asking approximately £40 million for the Danish international, but their pursuit of Torino star Per Schuurs – another right-sided centre-back – for £35 million suggests Andersen could be on the move.
In terms of Ibanez, it’s claimed we showed some interest in the 24-year-old, but Fulham are already contemplating an audacious bid for the South American now that we’re looking elsewhere.
Douglas also says that talks for Leicester’s Harvey Barnes are “ongoing.” The winger is eager to join St James’ Park, but negotiations over the transfer cost and payment breakdown are ongoing.
There is ‘optimism’ that an agreement will be reached in the coming days, allowing Barnes to join the squad for our journey to the United States next week ahead of our participation in the Premier League Summer Series.
