Newcastle United have reportedly held talks with Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries’ agent as they consider a surprise move.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Rafaela Pimenta, the agent, has been in England this week.
Pimenta is said to have spoken with Chelsea, Manchester United, and even Newcastle, with Dumfries being the subject of the talks.
According to the report, Dumfries will cost €50 million (£44 million) right now or €40 million (£35 million) in the summer.
Pimenta is Mino Raiola’s successor, and he has taken control of some major players.
Erling Haaland, Paul Pogba, and Gianluigi Donnarumma come to mind, but none of them are currently on their way to Newcastle.
Other players, such as Donyell Malen, Mitchel Bakker, and Stephy Mavididi, may fit the bill, but the report suggests that Newcastle is interested in Dumfries.
Dumfries is a very impressive right back; he is quick, powerful, and dangerous in the open field.
We’ve seen plenty of that quality with the Netherlands at Euro 2020 and the World Cup in Qatar, as well as in the Premier League, where rumors abound.
Newcastle, on the other hand, appears to be a strange rumor.
The Magpies already have a top right back in Kieran Trippier, and neither he nor Dumfries will want to sit on the bench right now.
Newcastle has mostly been linked with younger right-backs who can be molded and developed behind Trippier in the future.
Harrison Ashby, Cody Drameh, and Ivan Fresneda have all been linked, and their connections make far more sense than Dumfries.
Tottenham reportedly inquired about a deal for Dumfries ahead of the January transfer window, but Spurs are now set to sign Sporting star Pedro Porro.
Tottenham appears to be out of the running, and with a move to Newcastle unlikely, Chelsea or United may be the favorites for Dumfries in 2023.
