Lou Holtz Breaks silence as he Pledges To Attend National Championship Game While Firing Shot At Ryan Day This Moment That’s Going Viral

Lou Holtz and Ryan Day

There’s been no love lost between Lou Holtz and Ryan Day since the two men found themselves embroiled in a feud in 2023. The Ohio State coach recently confirmed he hasn’t gone out of his way to patch things up, and the former Notre Dame skipper has responded while pledging to head to Atlanta in the hopes of seeing the Fighting Irish vanquish the Buckeyes in person.

In 2023, Ryan Day led No. 6 Ohio State to a 17-14 victory over No. 9 Notre Dame in South Bend a year after he secured his first one over the Fighting Irish with a 21-10 win in the first half of the home-and-home series.

After the contest, Day used his on-field interview to lay into Lou Holtz due to comments the last coach to lead Notre Dame to a national championship made on College GameDay ahead of the game while asserting Ohio State wasn’t tough enough to hang with the squad they ended beating for the second time in a row.

Day will be looking to extend that streak to three while keeping his perfect record against Notre Dame intact when Ohio State faces off against them in the College Football Playoff National Championship on Monday, and during a press conference over the weekend, he confirmed he and Holtz have not connected since they found themselves feuding close to a year-and-a-half ago.

While Day didn’t go out of his way to throw another jab at Holtz ahead of the contest, the same can’t be said about his 88-year-old foe.

On Wednesday, Ty Schmit of The Pat McAfee Show hinted the man he does a killer impression of was hoping to overcome the leg injury he’s currently nursing and make the trek to the national championship game before Holtz confirmed he’ll be “dragging” himself to Mercedes-Benz Stadium while implying Day could end up looking for a new gig if Ohio State loses.

Holtz is giving off some huge Biggest Hater’s Funeral energy with that tweet, and while he might be giving Day some bulletin board material to work with, it’ll make a Notre Dame victory even sweeter if the Fighting Irish can pull off the upset in a game whre the Buckeyes are currently 8.5-point favorites.
