Week 13 of college football was a whirlwind of drama, and Week 14 is shaping up to be no different, with rivalry week upon us and high-stakes games that could have major College Football Playoff implications.
Former UCLA head coach and current CBS Sports analyst Rick Neuheisel believes an upset may be brewing on Saturday night in College Station, where the No. 20 Texas A&M Aggies will face off against the No. 3 Texas Longhorns.
Despite Texas being 5.5-point favorites on the road, according to DraftKings Sportsbook, Neuheisel thinks the Aggies have what it takes to pull off the major upset and secure a spot in the SEC Championship Game against the Georgia Bulldogs.
“We know about the SEC – that the home field matters. This is gonna be the home field plus 12, 13, 14 and 15. Give me the Aggies.” Neuheisel said.
The winner of this game will earn a spot in the SEC Championship, while the loser—especially if it’s Texas A&M—will likely be eliminated from contention.
For Texas, a loss would not necessarily knock them out of the playoff race, but it would drop them out of the top five and closer to the 8-12 range, making their path to the playoff much harder.
One of the biggest storylines heading into this game is the status of Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers, who suffered an ankle injury in Week 13. While he has practiced this week, his mobility will be a major question mark.
Early in the game, the Aggies’ pass rush will likely test his ability to move and perform, providing a key indication of what Ewers can contribute in this high-stakes matchup.
