The Michigan Wolverines pulled off a wild upset in The Game against the Ohio State Buckeyes, with the final score settling in at 13-10. This was an ugly game for both sides, but ultimately, Michigan did just enough to deal No. 2 ranked Ohio State a massive blow as bowl season rolls around.
While the game itself wasn’t all that exciting, a fight broke out on the field right after the final whistle blew that caught fans’ attention. Players and staffers from both teams were involved, and it’s safe to say it was a rather chaotic ending to a game that, despite the low score, was full of twists and turns.
Given the nature of the incident, it looks like both Ohio State and Michigan will face repercussions for participating in the fisticuffs. And ultimately, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see suspensions get handed out for players who were at the center of the incident.
“Have a feeling there will be some suspensions after they review the tape of that brawl. And for Ohio State, those would (be) for their first CFP game, if there are any,” Stewart Mandel of The Athletic said on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Anytime there’s a fight as large as this one, the NCAA steps in and hands out punishments in an effort to prevent them from happening again. However, it could end up being a very costly fight for Ohio State, as any suspensions for them would happen in a potential College Football Playoff game.
That would be a true gut-punch for the Buckeyes, even on a day when they were upset in such brutal fashion by the Wolverines. There’s still time for the team to recover, but they didn’t exactly do themselves any favors in this one, both during and after the game.
With this result in the books, all eyes will be on the Penn State Nittany Lions’ contest against the Maryland Terrapins, as they would find their way to the Big Ten Championship Game with a win. And with potential suspensions on the way, things could go from bad to even worse for Ohio State very quickly.
