Orel Mangala of Nottingham Forest has been praised for his performance in Belgium’s 3-2 win over Germany, with his burgeoning partnership with Amadou Onana being a highlight.
That’s according to Walfoot, who covers the pair today and sings the praises of the Nottingham Forest man.
They describe the duo as a “winning association” for new Belgium manager Domenico Tedesco, who may have found a pairing to focus on in the future.
They claim Mangala had a “exceptional first half hour” against the Germans, during which he “constantly harassed” his opponents and acted as a “true organizer.”
With a’monstrous’ performance in the middle of the park, he helped to ‘completely muzzle’ Germany’s midfield.
Mangala, who plays alongside Onana, ‘constantly harasses’ anyone who dares to touch the ball and was ‘absolutely infernal’ for the German players.
This was aided by his ability to physically dominate, allowing him to work alongside Onana and move the ball quickly to Belgium’s forwards.
When Germany pressed, he’made no mistakes’ and knew how to perfectly protect the ball at all times, assisting Belgium defensively even more.
As you might expect, Walfoot was a big fan of the pairing and said he’d like to see it again in the future, as Belgium and Tedesco look to build on a strong start.
Of course, bigger tests await the Nottingham Forest man, but Belgium’s victory was largely due to his performance in the middle, indicating that Tedesco ‘can rely’ on Mangala and Onana in the future.
