Big blow for Nottingham Forest as four key players included on long-term injury list

The latest Nottingham Forest news is that Steve Cooper’s Reds were defeated 2-0 by Aston Villa in a Premier League match.

Injury problems have plagued Nottingham Forest’s season as Steve Cooper’s side fights for Premier League survival.

Cheikhou Kouyate was pulled off after only 30 minutes of the Reds’ 2-0 defeat against Aston Villa, his first start since returning from a four-month absence. And, with Cooper unable to make any more replacements, the visitors were forced to play the final 10 minutes with 10 men after Moussa Niakhate also had to make way.

Niakhate, meantime, has only lately returned from a long absence. Furthermore, full-back Renan Lodi and midfielder Gustavo Scarpa have been added to the injury list, while striker Emmanuel Dennis is not yet recovered from a knock suffered in the midweek loss to Leeds United.

Cooper believes Niakhate and Kouyate both have hamstring injuries. “I’m not sure what the extent is.

“Scarpa and Lodi have both been injured since Leeds.” Renan got a kick in practice that will keep him out for a while. Dennis almost made the bench, but he was a risk.

“And then we picked up two injuries in the game as well. On that front, not ideal again

“It’s definitely not gone our way with injuries. We’ve done everything to look at why that is.

“It hasn’t helped me in any way, shape, or form.” But, as I’ve previously stated, I don’t want to talk about it too much because it becomes an excuse.

“Is it perfect? It isn’t, of course. But I don’t want to sit here and tell you and the fans about our injuries because you still put a team out there capable of winning games. That is more of my focus.”

Scott McKenna and Jesse Lingard were unused replacements at Villa Park due to injury.Serge Aurier, Ryan Yates, Chris Wood, Willy Boly, Dean Henderson, Omar Richards, and Giulian Biancone are still out for Forest.
