BREAKING NEWS: Nottingham Forest appeal verdict will have ‘£80m’ impact – Kieran Maguire

The Nottingham Forest appeal verdict could have an “£80million” impact on Luton Town if it affects the Premier League relegation battle.

That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who exclusively told Football Insider that the appeal could land a “significant blow” to Luton given that they are trying to build a new stadium.

Forest were deducted four points earlier this season after being charged with a breach of Profit and Sustainability Rules.

The club decided to appeal the punishment, with a verdict from that hearing expected in the next few days.

Any changes to the deduction could have a huge impact on the relegation battle, with Forest just three points clear of Luton Town in 18th.

Maguire explained that the outcome of the appeal could also have a major financial impact if it determines the relegation battle.

If the appeal verdict has an impact on a club being relegated, then you are looking at a reduction in TV money of £60million,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean Fisher.

You’re probably also looking at £5 to £10 million in reduction to commercial income.

I know Brighton did an economic impact report last season which said that being in the Premier League was worth £600million to the city.

So you’ve got all of these issues together.

In regards to Luton, if Forest’s appeal impacts their relegation then we’re probably looking at somewhere in the region of a £70-£80million hit to the club.

Given that they are trying to build a stadium and improve facilities, it would be a very significant blow.
