Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper revealed that both Gonzalo Montiel and Serge Aurier are injured. In the case of Montiel, he was wounded during Argentina’s 2-0 triumph over Peru on Tuesday night.
The Reds were constantly concerned about Aurier. He hasn’t looked especially fit this season, and he was taken off at halftime against Crystal Palace.
Cooper has already confirmed that both right-backs will be absent when Forest face Luton Town this Saturday. Cooper now has a void to fill, and he’ll have to shuffle his flock.
Cooper confirms Montiel’s terrible blow
This isn’t particularly encouraging. The Reds now have only one available right-back, and Neco Williams, who has barely featured this season, is expected to start on Saturday after two strong displays for Wales.
Montiel was also only getting started. He nearly scored in the second half against Palace, and he’ll now be out of the team for a while.
Cooper was questioned about the new injuries that have been reported in his squad, and this one is undoubtedly a setback.
“That is correct,” he told Football Daily. We will evaluate it ourselves. We’ve seen the preliminary scans and everything, but it appears to be a calf injury. Serge clearly injured himself as he walked off at Crystal Palace. You want everyone to fit, but that isn’t always the case.”
Forest suffers a significant injury blow with the loss of Montiel and Aurier.
The two are really good players with solid game pedigrees. Both have international and Champions League experience, which will be sorely missed.
It was always expected that Aurier would be unable to compete this weekend. To now lose Montiel is quite amazing, and follows a similar pattern to last season.
Forest had a slew of injury issues in 2022/23, and they’ll be anxious not to acquire any more until any of their present fitness concerns return.
Cooper seemed unconcerned about his ailments. In his opinion, it will be a question of “next man up,” and whoever gets the nod will have a strong chance on Saturday.
