Chairman Kelvin Thomas finally deliver super transfer progress to bring 5 key players to NORTHAMPTON TOWN

As has been the case for the last few years, many of the new signings have arrived late in the summer and into pre-season, and the Chairman said there is lot going on in preparation for new some new arrivals.

“It has been a quiet time in terms of actual signings, not just for us but across the leagues,” he said

“Things are just starting to move now with more signings being announced and we anticipate things will continue to gradually pick up.

“It might be a quiet time in terms of announcements but it is not a quiet time in terms of work. Lots of meetings, negotiations etc are taking place and we have some offers out on the table. Jon and the staff have been involved in a lot of conversations and that is ongoing.

“The market is different again this year. There is a lot of salary inflation and that will increase even more with the size of some of the clubs in League One. We have had discussions about the budget and we continue to do so – we are always looking at it and reacting to circumstances to give us the best possible chance of doing as well as we can.

“We will probably have to increase the budget again to get to around the same position we were last season and we are comfortable with that, but we never said we would be the biggest spenders in this league and nor should we be. Our job, and let’s not forget we are also spending millions of pounds building the stand this summer, is to maximise the value we can from the playing budget we have available and we feel that is what we, as a club and Jon as a manager, and his staff are good at.

“Last season there was a lot of nonsense spoken about budgets and us making signings late. I think this year there is more trust in us. We are very comfortable with where we are, we will be ready for the start of the season.”
