DEAL: Nottingham Forest battling hard to sign £8m midfielder who plays like Paul Pogba

Nottingham Forest are now trying to sign a midfielder who has been compared to Paul Pogba.

Despite significant uncertainty at the City Ground amid relegation fears and financial issues, recruitment plans are still being drawn up as Nottingham Forest attempt to prepare for any outcome.

Ross Wilson – Director of Football at the City Ground – therefore has a tough task on his hands, as players will presumably be wary of agreeing to join until they know exactly what the future holds for Nottingham Forest.

Nevertheless, there is still one player Nottingham Forest are trying to sign amid all the uncertainty…

Nottingham Forest want to sign Raphael Onyedika

Well – according to Cumhuriyet in Turkey – Nottingham Forest are hoping to sign Raphael Onyedika from Club Brugge this summer.

The Turkish news outlet believe Nottingham Forest’s relegation rivals Crystal Palace and Everton are also keen to buy the Nigeria international.

If Wilson can find a way to sign Onyedika, Nottingham Forest fans should probably get excited given the calibre of midfielder the 22-year-old has been compared to.

Amid his rise in Belgian football – which has seen the Nigerian rack up seven appearances in the UEFA Champions League – people have compared the man from Imo to Pogba.

Goal have also made that comparison, and Onyedika – who cost Club Brugge €9m (£8m) – has actually admitted that the 2018 World Cup winner is an idol of his in quotes relayed by the same outlet.

The Club Brugge No.15 told Voetbal Nieuws: “I like to win duels and I am also good with the ball at my feet. Personally, I look up to Paul Pogba. A lot of people say we look alike, but I just want to be the best version of myself.”

Is Paul Pogba 2.0 needed?

As things stand, we would argue that Nottingham Forest do not need another central midfielder.

Nuno Espirito Santo already has Danilo, Ibrahim Sangare, Ryan Yates and Nicolas Dominguez to fill two central midfield positions in the starting XI – so the Portuguese tactician has plenty of depth in that department.

Therefore – unless Nottingham Forest are planning to wave goodbye to one of these names – a move for Onyedika would not make much sense.

Nevertheless, be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Wilson attempts to lay down some concrete transfer plans amid this stressful relegation battle.
