Nottingham Forest have cut £15million from their wage bill after releasing 18 players from the club this week, sources have told Football Insider.
The club confirmed their retained list via their website on Wednesday (5 June) that revealed that 18 players have left the City Ground this summer.
The list of departures at the club includes six first-team players – Harry Arter, Wayne Hennessey, Cheikhou Kouyate, Loic Mbe Soh, Scott McKenna and Felipe.
Divock Origi is also among five loan stars who have returned to their parent clubs, alongside Gonzalo Montiel, Gio Reyna, Rodrigo Ribeiro and Nuno Tavares.
It is understood that Origi was one of the highest earners at the club with the Belgian striker earning around £110,000 per week during his loan stint.
Nottingham Forest can calm PSR fears after £15m cut
Felipe earned around £70,000 per week before his retirement while Gio Reyna and Harry Arter were pocketing close to £40,000 weekly.
Overall, Football Insider has been told that Forest have cut close to £15million from their wage bill through their summer departures.
The cut to their wage bill will provide a significant boost to the club’s budget under the Profit and Sustainability Rules.
Forest were deducted four points in the 2023-24 season after exceeding their allowable losses by £34.5million.
They are expected to be close to their PSR limit again next season, but cuts to their wage bill will provide the club with extra financial flexibility.
