The latest Nottingham Forest news comes as Olympiacos compete in the Greek Super League play-offs, with a meeting over refereeing standards scheduled after the first round of games.
Evangelos Marinakis, owner of Nottingham Forest and Olympiacos, has slammed the Greek FA (EPO) following a meeting with the organization this week.
Olympiacos is currently in the Greek Super League play-offs at the end of the season. The team began their season with a 3-0 win over Volos, in which Olympiacos was called for 22 fouls to their opponents’ 15.
There has been some debate about how the play-off games have been refereed thus far, with Marinakis participating in a meeting to discuss the issues. The meeting included EPO president Takis Baltakos, referee chief Steve Bennett, and representatives from AEK Athens, PAOK, and Volos, all of whom are involved in the play-offs.
According to reports, the meeting discussed recent contentious officiating and how to improve it, but no agreement was reached among the parties present. Marinakis told the waiting reporters as he walked out of the meeting: “Do you expect me to explain what EPO is? Do you have no idea what EPO is? EPO is the worst thing imaginable.”
Olympiacos are next in action on Sunday evening as they host Aris in their second play-off game. They will be hoping that there are no refereeing controversies in that clash.
This is not the first time Marinakis has expressed his displeasure with the refereeing standards this season. Earlier this month, it was reported that Forest were preparing an official complaint about Premier League decisions.
The club was said to be compiling a list of mistakes made by match officials in Forest games this season to submit to the Professional Game Match Officials Board (PGMOL). The decision to file a complaint came following the 2-2 draw with Everton, in which Forest felt they should have been awarded a free kick in the build-up to the Toffees’ second goal.
