Fans in tears as Jesse Lingard sends heart touching message to after exit confirmed

Lingard expressed his gratitude to Forest and their fans on social media as he prepares to depart the club at the end of the season.

WHAT THEY SAID: The 30-year-old Englishman took to Instagram to share several photos of himself and his colleagues from his one-year tenure at Forest, writing, “It was a pleasure.”

“Thank you to everyone at @officialnffc, from fans to backroom staff and, of course, the players.” It’s been a wild ride, but we persevered through thick and thin to reach our objective. “It’s been a pleasure,” Lingard wrote in the description of his Instagram image.

THE BIGGER PICTURE: Lingard returned to Manchester United in 2021-22 after a fantastic loan spell with West Ham in the second half of the 2020-21 season, where he scored nine Premier League goals in 16 games. He did, however, sign a one-year, £120,000-per-week contract with Forest for the 2022-23 season.

Lingard was signed to help them avoid relegation, but a string of injuries and bad form saw him slide down the pecking order under head coach Steve Cooper, starting only one game in 2023. Although Nottingham escaped relegation and will remain in the Premier League for at least another season, it is unclear whether Lingard will find a new club in England next season.
