The Athletic reported on when Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson will be able to play again. The Manchester United loanee has been out with a thigh injury since January, and Keylor Navas was signed from PSG in January.
Henderson must have been devastated to sustain a serious injury at that point in the season. Forest were doing well, and the 26-year-old was playing brilliantly between the posts, earning him a call-up to England’s squad this season.
Navas has played well since he arrived at Forest and thankfully, the Reds were able to get that deal sorted. Still, it’s likely that Henderson will be viewed as the club’s number-one option going forwards and he should get game time before the end of the season.
If Forest maintains their Premier League status this season, they hope to sign Henderson on a permanent basis. They won’t have a chance to do so if the player suspects he isn’t the City Ground’s number one.
The Athletic’s report has now provided an update on Henderson. They believe the man with one England cap will be back in action in three weeks, which means he may make the trip to Anfield to face Liverpool.
Nothing against Navas, who has been outstanding since his arrival. He’s been a huge help to the team, but at 36, he’s clearly a short-term solution and is unlikely to be back at the City Ground next season.
Henderson’s circumstances could be very different. According to various reports, he may leave Old Trafford, and Forest are desperate to sign him if they want to stay in the Premier League.
When the two were at Sheffield United together, Sander Berge described Henderson as “exceptional.” He’s had some big moments for Forest this season, and hopefully he’ll be able to get back in there and have a few more when he’s first and ready.
