A Dutch football journalist thinks Ibrahim Sangare might be regretting signing for Nottingham Forest following his summer move from PSV.
The 25-year-old hasn’t started a game since Boxing Day and has missed games through the African Cup of Nations and injury.
Now, Dutch reporter Rif Elfrink believes that Sangare might be regretting his Forest switch. Let’s take a closer look at what he’s said about the combative midfielder.
Rik Elfrink thinks Ibrahim Sangare regrets Nottingham Forest move
Well, it is a fair point and after seeing PSV play in the Champions League and reach the round of 16, he might have some regrets.
His game time has been restricted due to a number of factors and so far he’s made just 12 appearances for the Reds.
Sangare moved to Forest on transfer deadline day in August, with a fee of £30 million paid to PSV for the Reds to obtain his signature.
Elfrink believes he’d have liked to have played more for Forest – and feels that Sangare could now be regretting the move to the City Ground.
He told Voetbal Zone: “He had such a good time here, in Eindhoven.
“When he left in August, I saw him and that touched me. I thought it was very impressive that he left here with tears in his eyes, I haven’t seen that often. As a person, Sangare had a good time here in Eindhoven.
“No, it did not become the dream step that was initially thought. The Premier League suits him, but it’s a great shame that it has not turned out positively for him so far.”
Sangare can still come good for the Reds
With the injury now cleared up and Sangare ready to return to action, it’s vital that Nuno Espirito Santo gets him back in the Forest team.
When he played in a 4-2-3-1 at Newcastle on Boxing Day it came as a surprise, but Sangare produced a masterclass of a performance to dominate the midfield.
Sangare also did well at West Ham in November but his strong performances have, in fairness, been few and far between.
Steve Cooper didn’t help Sangare settle at Forest. He admitted to playing the midfielder in a position that he wasn’t suited with when he first came to the club.
Given that Sangare is only 25 and the fact that he cost £30 million, there is still time for the midfielder to prove his worth to Forest.
The man with six bookings just needs to stick to the basics. With a run of regular games, Forest fans should soon start to see the Sangare that was worshipped by PSV supporters.
