Journalist Dean Jones send shocking message to Nottingham Forest as Steve Cooper’s job in danger

Dean Jones, a journalist and transfer insider, says Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper is in “danger” but will be able to find another job if fired before the conclusion of the season or quits in the summer.

Forest are now 18th in the Premier League with seven games remaining, and has a dismal run of four victories and one draw in their last five games.

The 43-year-old took over at The Garibaldi in September 2021, when the club was on the verge of relegation in the Championship, and changed their fortunes, taking them back to the Premier League for the first time since 1999.

Since then he has overseen 2-0 defeats to Aston Villa and Manchester United which has left Forest on the brink of relegation with Liverpool, Brighton, Chelsea and Arsenal all yet to play.

Cooper has received support from his owner for the second time this season, after signing a new deal with the club at the bottom of the Premier League in October despite widespread speculation that he would be removed of his duties.

What did Dean Jones have to say regarding Steve Cooper’s future?

Jones stated in an interview with This is Futbol that, while Cooper’s job is clearly under jeopardy, he has demonstrated enough to find another job should he leave Forest.

Regarding Cooper’s future, the journalist stated:

“Anyone in this situation is in danger. Cooper is no different, as far as I’m concerned.

“No matter what the public statements are. I think the thing is for Cooper is that he has such a good reputation in the game, he’d easily land another job anyway even if he does end up leaving.”

With Forest’s perilous position in the Premier League, it would be easy to judge Cooper on what has been a difficult season back in the top flight.

However, with a record 21 acquisitions last summer and another seven in January, he has found it incredibly difficult to establish a stable starting eleven.

His ability as a manager was demonstrated last year as he guided the team up through the play-offs, earning him the epithet “remarkable” from former Forest and Arsenal striker Kevin Campbell.

Whether he keeps Forest in the Premier League or not, he has demonstrated the ability to turn around a club’s fortunes and will thus be on the radar of several big clubs.
