Keylor Navas joined Nottingham Forest on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in January after struggling for consistent game time at the Ligue 1 club in the first half of the season.
The 36-year-old’s choice to join the Tricky Trees has paid off, as he’s been a regular this year. His current status at the Premier League club did not prevent him from expressing an interest in playing for Mexican club Club América earlier this week.
The Nottingham Forest goalkeeper has been encouraged after Club América manager Fernando Ortiz invited him to join them. Record in Mexico relays the coach’s remarks.
“All the elite players want to play for Club América. If Keylor Navas was available and in suitable condition, we would consider him in the future to add to that position,” he said.Steve Cooper’s side don’t have an option or obligation to make the Costa Rican’s loan deal permanent. As it stands, the stopper will have to return to PSG in the summer, where he has a contract until 2024.
Navas has won trophies with Real Madrid and PSG in recent years. His situation has now shifted at Nottingham Forest, where he is battling to keep the club from being relegated.
The Tricky Trees are now ranked 18th in the table, and the South American has stated that this has not impacted his approach.
“It doesn’t change much because when you had to fight for a title, you had to be psyched up to win; to give my best and that is the way I got used to playing,” Navas said to Telemundo, as cited by Radio Colombia.
“Despite the fact that the goal is slightly different, the method of giving everything has not changed and I do not believe it will change.”
