Johnson was linked with a move to St James’ Park last year before Forest gained promotion, and his Premier League performances have demonstrated that he can produce at the highest level.
That is why Newcastle is still interested in the 22-year-old. Johnson was reported to ‘like’ the Magpies in March, and a report in May claimed that he could be a summer target for Eddie Howe.
Forest avoiding relegation to the Championship means they may not need to sell their great player, and it appears that Steve Cooper’s side will expect a large fee to sell their top scorer.
Brennan Johnson is valued at £40 million by Nottingham Forest.
The Daily Mail reports that Forest want at least £40 million for Johnson this summer. West Ham and Everton are both interested in signing him ahead of next season, according to the source.
It’s simple to see why. Both the Hammers and the Toffees battled in the Premier League, with Sean Dyche’s team edging past Bournemouth on the penultimate day of the season. West Ham were also in relegation contention, but were able to secure their position in next season’s Premier League before the season’s last game.
Johnson would be a terrific addition to either team. He thrived in his first season in the Premier League, netting eight Premier League goals. He was instrumental in Forest avoiding relegation to the Championship.
The forward, dubbed as ‘class’ by Micah Richards, is a genuinely intriguing young talent with whom Eddie Howe could do miracles. Newcastle are looking for a new right winger, and Johnson can also play across the centre. That adaptability would be very appealing to the Toon manager.
Johnson would undoubtedly be enticed by a move to Newcastle, especially with Champions League action on the horizon. That may put us ahead of West Ham and Everton.
Newcastle, on the other hand, appear to be interested in a number of players in a similar position, and it is unclear how high Johnson stands on the Magpies’ list of summer targets.
