Exeter City are the latest club to be linked with Crystal Palace midfielder Malachi Boateng, as per Alan Nixon.
They will be joined by Northampton Town and Stevenage with all three clubs hoping to improve on last season’s results.
The Grecians finished 13th, one point and one place above Northampton Town and Stevenage managed to register quite an impressive 9th-place finish.
But, they have lost manager Steve Evans and it remains to be seen whether next season they struggle to make the transition under Alex Revell.
Boateng, 21, has spent the last two seasons on loan in Scotland. He made 36 appearances in all competitions for Dundee FC last season and 41 for Queen’s Park the year before.
The defensive midfielder is expected to leave on loan again with the League One trio of Exeter City, Stevenage and Northampton Town eyeing a move this summer.
A solid addition
Boateng has now spent two full seasons in first team football north of the border
He has experience in both the Scottish Championship and top tier and it seems Palace once again want him to have a spell away to build up his experience.
It would be good for the 21-year-old to spend some time in England within a first team environment and League One is probably the best place for him.
It’s key he receives regular game time whilst out on loan and he may struggle to get that in the Championship which makes the third tier the ideal league for him this season.
Making the right moves
Stevenage were only five points outside the top six last season, whilst Exeter City and Northampton Town were 15 and 16 respectively.
It’s unlikely the latter two will make up enough ground to climb inside the top six this season but they could definitely work towards climbing inside the top half of the division.
Stevenage meanwhile could finish inside the top six this year but it’s hard to predict where they will end up under new management.
Boateng would be a solid addition for either of these teams and it will be interesting to see where he heads this summer.
