Nottingham beat Tottenham and Brentford after hot battle to sign another Brazilian star

Nottingham Forest are supposedly ‘leading the pursuit’ for Flamengo’s Brazilian striker Pedro.

With a 25-goal season under his belt, the 26-year-old is receiving interest from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and Brentford.

Forest are at the top of the queue for Flamengo’s signature, according to Italian outlet TMW (via Sky Sports ). The Reds reportedly’made first contact’ for the striker earlier this month, which may have put them ahead of their competitors in the pursuit.

Flamengo are apparently unwilling to hear bids for Pedro below £25 million, and they intend to “play hard” in discussions. Saudi Arabia, as well as Brazilian rivals Palmeiras and Botafogo, have previously expressed interest in Pedro.

Forest have yet to make their first signing of the summer, while head coach Steve Cooper has teased that news will come “soon” as the club ramps up their transfer activity. The sole internal move was to extend Chris Wood’s loan from Newcastle, but new faces are on their way to the City Ground.

“We’re getting close,” Cooper stated following the friendly victory over Notts County. “But I’m not sure how close is close!”

“To be fair, we’re close on a few. But who knows how far they’ll travel till they get their boots and train!”
