Nottingham Forest player Neco Williams has posted on Instagram and he’s suggested that he’s been injured of late. The Reds defender hasn’t made the last three squads and that has left some fans scratching their heads.
Williams was often included in the matchday squad under Steve Cooper last season. The head coach took him from Liverpool for £17 million in the summer of 2022 and he made 36 appearances in all competitions.
The young performer played twice for the Wales national team during the international break. However, he’s been left out of two squads since then and also sat out the win over Chelsea.
It would appear that the reason for his absence at the moment has been down to injury issues. He’s posted a wordless post on Instagram that seems to suggest he’s not fit.

This will need to be confirmed but it seems as though the Wales performer has picked up a niggle. He’s posted on Instagram a snap of him in the gym at the training ground with two egg timer emojis.
Those kinds of posts tend to suggest that a player will be back soon. As a result, perhaps it’s not quite as simple as Williams has been dropped and he will hope to find his way back soon.
The Reds player will hope to force his way back into contention once he has shaken off his latest problem. However, after a number of signings this summer, that won’t come easy.
Will Williams be an integral performer at Forest?
Steve Cooper is a huge fan of Williams but he has spoken about having more athleticism within his squad. As a result, it’s hard to see the Wales international holding down a place in the team.
One aspect in his favour is that he can perform a duty in either full-back role for the team. That might be enough to earn himself a place on the bench but starting could prove tricky.
Forest signed Gonzalo Montiel, Ola Aina and Nuno Tavares in the summer. As a result, it looks as though Williams is fourth in line for a place right now and he might be facing a losing battle for game time this season.
