Nottingham Forest eye £100m deal as Evangelos Marinakis send transfer message

Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Steve Cooper’s Reds prepare for the Premier League season

Nottingham Forest’s shopping frenzy is yet to begin during a busy transfer window at the City Ground.

As soon as the club’s Premier League survival was assured, head coach Steve Cooper emphasized the need of building on that foundation. An essential element of that is strengthening the squad in preparation for the 2023/24 season.

The Reds have yet to sign any new players, but additions are being sought in a variety of positions. And it appears that fans are impatient for owner Evangelos Marinakis to start spending money.

The spending is unlikely to be on the same scale as last year, when 22 players were signed in preparation for the club’s return to the top division. Cooper has already stated that he anticipates “more normal” statistics this season, and Forest will keep FFP in mind as they strive to make wise business.

However, supporters believe that large funds will still be required in order for the Reds to progress. NottinghamshireLive asked supporters how much money should be spent on signings this summer as part of our Forest Big Forum Survey, and the findings are extremely fascinating.

The majority (39 percent) of almost 3,000 replies indicated that between £75-100 million will be required to bolster the team. Meanwhile, 30% of fans believe that spending £50-75 million on new players is appropriate.

15% said the transfer fund should be £100-150 million, while 9% thought it should be £20-50 million. Only 6% of those polled want Forest to spend more than £150 million on acquisitions, while 1% believe the club should spend between £0 and £20 million.

A big dressing room refurbishment cost up to £150 million last summer. The Reds’ focus this year will be to fix the goalkeeping and left-back positions, but adding to their attacking arsenal will also be on the top of their to-do list. The transfer window will also include considerations for central midfield and central defense. However, as the club looks to save costs, an equal amount of attention will be paid to supervising exits.
