Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has confirmed that Chris Wood is out for the rest of the season due to injury.
Since joining on loan from Newcastle United in the January transfer window, Wood has scored one goal in seven appearances.
The 31-year-old suffered a thigh injury just six minutes after coming on as a substitute in Tottenham Hotspur’s 3-1 defeat earlier this month.
Wood still traveled to New Zealand to train with the national team, but he was unable to play in either of the two friendlies against China.
Cooper has revealed that Wood suffered another injury while on international duty, which will keep him out for the rest of the season, ahead of Saturday’s home match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Cooper told reporters, “Chris Wood is out for the season.” “During the international break, he sustained an injury.”
There’s more bad news: Serge Aurier, Andre Ayew, and Gustavo Scarpa have all returned from international duty with injuries.
Cooper stated: “Serge, Andre, and Gustavo have also been injured during the break. We don’t know how long they’ll be out or when they’ll be available for the next few games.”
Brennan Johnson was unable to join the Wales squad due to a groin problem, and he is a doubt for Saturday’s match.
“Brennan is not fully recovered,” Cooper added. “It’s something we have to manage and assess on a daily basis.”
“Like some of the other guys, it’s a little bit iffy right now in terms of availability for the next games, with us having three in a week.”
Despite having fitness concerns about several members of his squad, Forest manager Mark Warburton was able to provide some good news.
Cooper stated, “Taiwo (Awoniyi) and Cheikhou (Kouyate) are back in full training mode.” “Of course, Moussa (Niakhate) is back now, having played the last game and then making his international debut for Senegal – congratulations to him on that, I know how much it means to him.”
Forest enter the weekend in 16th place in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone.
