Another day and another damning claim made about Stuart Attwell but this one is the most infuriating of the lot for Nottingham Forest fans.
It’s now Wednesday and the three penalty decisions that the Reds didn’t get on Sunday still hurt.
Unlike the claim made by Forest, Attwell didn’t cheat but boy is the official outing himself as being unbelievably incompetent.
Forest went to town on the appointment of a supposed Luton fan for such a crucial game in the relegation battle.
Their initial statement following the final whilst was criticised by Alan Shearer and Micah Richards – with both slamming Forest.
At this point, however, the whole thing is a joke – right down to UEFA announcing yesterday that Attwell will work on VAR during Euro 2024.
Now, another claim has been made that will frankly see some Forest fans lose their heads regarding Attwell.
New report exposes Stuart Attwell detail from Forest clash
In fairness, on Sunday we do offer Attwell a bit of sympathy as the PGMOL should never have put him on the game.
However, this was a shambolic performance and one that asked many questions of the whole VAR system.
The first two decisions that went against Forest were extremely subjective – but the third was just laughable.
It’s now come to light from the Daily Mail that Attwell chose not to even have a look at the possible foul on Callum Hudson-Odoi.
Quite why is a mystery given that on the field of play, Anthony Taylor points to the ball to suggest that Ashley Young had played that instead of the man.
It needed a quick look to check that the referee was correct and one replay would have shown that he wasn’t.
This sort of thing just makes a mockery of the Premier League and Attwell – along with the PGMOL – has a lot to answer.
Forest have to adopt siege mentality against Manchester City
Well, this news is quite infuriating, to say the least. Forest fans will be livid at this and they’ve every right to be.
It just reiterates the point that if you’re not in the top six then the checks for little things will be fewer and far between.
Forest do have to move on from this at some point though and ultimately, they face the champions at home on Sunday afternoon.
Attwell has suffered no repercussions for his awful performance – are we surprised? – and will take charge of a game in the Premier League this weekend.
The club aren’t going to take this one lying down and they need to now leave the powers that be to deal with the PGMOL.
Forest fans should be right on top of the players on Sunday and hopefully, the Reds can stun the champions.
To not even have a look at this decision is incompetent at its highest form and it’s absolutely bonkers that Attwell chose not to give it a once-over
If he had, he’d have seen that Young didn’t play the ball and a review would have surely been recommended to Taylor.
Had this same incident happened to one of the big six in the Premier League, there is absolutely no way that Attwell wouldn’t have checked it.
That alone is enough to make even the calmest of Forest fans seriously angry with the whole system and only Attwell knows why he made this horrendous call.
