Nottingham Forest in full negotiations with Rangers chief immediately after Filippo Giraldi exit

Nottingham Forest have been linked with a move for Rangers’ sports director following the resignation of Filippo Giraldi.

Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson is reportedly being courted by Nottingham Forest.

The 39-year-old joined the Gers in 2019 and worked with former manager Steven Gerrard to construct the team that went unbeaten to win the 2021 league title, as well as helping the Glasgow club reach the Europa League final during his time at Ibrox. Fans have recently questioned Wilson, since star players Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos are due to leave for free this summer.

On Tuesday, Forest revealed that sporting director Filippo Giraldi has departed the club after only six months with the Reds. Wilson had worked as a sporting director and in senior recruitment at Watford, Huddersfield Town, and Southampton before moving to Scotland.

According to The Athletic, Forest are “working on a deal” to bring Wilson to the City Ground as a senior footballer. The club’s “preferred candidate” in the search for Giraldi’s replacement is said to be the club’s recruitment chief.

Forest are alleged to have pursued the former Watford football director before “entering negotiations” with Rangers. Wilson has previously turned down offers to return to England, but Forest are allegedly confident that they can persuade him to join the Reds.

“Nottingham Forest’s Sporting Director, Filippo Giraldi, has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect,” the club said in a statement on Tuesday. He departs the Club with our best regards.

“Filippo would like to express his gratitude to the Club and wishes Nottingham Forest the best of luck in the future.”
