Nottingham Forest make final decision as player set for a surprise exit after 1-6 loss vs Liverpool

The former Manchester United man has been linked with a move away from the City Ground in the summer, according to the most recent Nottingham Forest transfer news.

According to rumours, relegation rivals Leicester City have expressed “tentative interest” in Nottingham Forest midfielder Jesse Lingard ahead of the summer transfer season.

The 30-year-old moved to the City Ground on a free transfer from Manchester United in the summer, but has yet to make the impact that was expected of him. Lingard’s season has been hampered by injuries, resulting in just 17 Premier League appearances for the Reds this season.

Due to injury and non-selection, the former United man has started just two league games since the return of domestic football following the World Cup break. After being an unused replacement in Saturday’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa, the player returned to action as a late substitution in Sunday’s 2-0 loss against his former side, going on for the final two minutes of the game.

Lingard, who signed a one-year contract with Forest, is a free agent at the end of the season. Leicester, along with Turkish club Fenerbahce and clubs in the Middle East, have indicated “tentative interest” in the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

Lingard made five appearances for Leicester during half a season loan spell from Manchester United back in the 2012/2013 season. He later went on to establish himself in the first team at Old Trafford.

Leicester’s interest could depend on their Premier League status next season. Like Forest, the Foxes are in a battle to avoid the drop at the end of the campaign. Leicester sit one place and two points below the Reds in the Premier League table ahead of the final seven league games of the season.

“Like everyone else, he’s giving everything to be in a position where he can contribute,” Cooper said ahead of the game against United. “Jesse is just as determined as the rest of us.”

“He’s had a difficult time, and he’s missed some games due to injuries that weren’t long-term, but just didn’t allow him to be available for games.” He’d love to be involved and, more importantly, contribute in a great, really positive way against Manchester United.”
