The 2023/24 Premier League campaign is now tantalisingly close to finishing and Nottingham Forest have a decision to make on Ola Aina.
The Nigerian signed for the Reds on a free transfer in the summer of 2023 from Serie A outfit Torino.
Aina returned to England having previously spent time with Chelsea, Fulham and Hull.
Forest have largely utilised Aina as a left-back and after returning to the team following injury, the back four started to settle a bit.
Kelvin Wilson has been a big fan of Aina, suggesting recently that the Reds man has been good during the campaign.
Now, with just one game of the current campaign remaining, Forest must make a huge call on Aina.
Forest must make big decision on Ola Aina
Well, this really is a no-brainer and we can’t believe that nothing has been done about it just yet.
Forest have to hand Aina a new contract and it does feel as though the club are letting this one drag on a little bit.
The 26-year-old is at a nice age and furthermore, he can operate on both sides of the defensive unit.
Aina has come in from Torino and despite not being a particularly spectacular signing, he’s been solid throughout the campaign.
Forest do hold an option to activate another year for Aina and with a single game remaining of the campaign, we think it’s time to get this one done.
Aina has made 21 appearances for the Reds and he’s been the one consistent performer at left-back this season.
The player was brilliant against Chelsea today and now a decision should be made.
Aina can save money at the City Ground
In the grand scheme of things, this makes perfect sense as it would mean Forest don’t need to go out and sign another left-back.
With Harry Toffolo also in the squad, Forest would be well-stocked at left-back if they tied Aina down to a new deal.
Furthermore, Aina wouldn’t break the bank given that he currently earns just £34,000-a-week at the City Ground.
The statistics also indicate why Forest have to get Aina’s current deal extended beyond the end of this season.
Over the season he’s made 42 tackles and perhaps more crucially as a full-back he’s only been dribbled past 11 times.
Aina likes to get forward – much like most modern full-backs – and he’s fourth when it comes to successful dribbles in the Forest squad this season.
When it comes to Aina, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives and Forest need to get this one sorted as a matter of urgency.
