“We owe David great thanks and appreciation for his remarkable and enduring contribution to Nottingham Forest,” he stated. “His iconic design will be forever woven into the rich history of the club, and we are delighted that David will be joining us for this Sunday’s Premier League fixture against Manchester United so that we may express our gratitude to him in person.”

Lewis has worked with the club to design a special commemorative crest to commemorate the occasion. It will be on the front cover of Sunday’s match programme, and Lewis will be given a special thank you gift from the club on the field during halftime. Forest has also collaborated with Art of Football to create a limited edition hoodie to commemorate the occasion.

Lewis’ design was inspired by his participation in a competition held by the Nottingham Post in February 1973 to produce a new club crest. More than 800 entries were received from all across the world.

Lewis was named the winner in April of that year, receiving a prize of £25. He went on to polish the design with Ken Smales, the club secretary at the time, until it became the one that still graces the Reds’ shirts today.
