A trio of Premier League clubs are reportedly weighing up a move for Nottingham Forest’s Callum Hudson-Odoi, with Aston Villa a likely contender.
The three-time England international enjoyed his best season to date as he scored eight goals and made one assist in 20 Premier League starts, helping Forest avoid the drop. The mere £3 million paid to Chelsea for Hudson-Odoi’s services appears to be an absolute bargain, especially as the winger is now of interest to clubs with big spending power.
Sky Sports reports three unnamed English top-flight teams are interested in signing the 23-year-old this summer, including one qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League. Tottenham Hotspur, as widely reported elsewhere, are keen, leaving two other clubs in the race.
Villa are highly likely to be the unnamed Champions League team as Unai Emery wants to sign a versatile and speedy winger this summer. A move for Athletic Bilbao attacker Nico Williams is looking increasingly tricky due to the Spaniard’s wage demands, whereas Nicolo Zaniolo isn’t expected to be signed permanently from Galatasaray.
Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool, meanwhile, will probably be looking at targets of a higher calibre than Hudson-Odoi. Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto has been linked to all three and Crystal Palace ace Michael Olise’s name is constantly circling in reports involving the Premier League’s so-called big six.
Hudson-Odoi, still yet to enter his prime years, can play on either flank or as an attacking midfielder. The former Bayer Leverkusen loanee has scored 12 and assisted 12 in 101 Premier League appearances, many of which have been off the bench. His current market value, as per Transfermarkt, is €15 million (£12.8 million), though a much higher fee will almost certainly be demanded by Forest.
