Nottingham Forest set to sign another Anthony Elanga for £0 this summer as rumours emerge

Nottingham Forest could now sign another Anthony Elanga this summer as rumours emerge – and on a free transfer as well.

The Garibaldi made a smart move back in July 2023 when snapping up the Sweden international in a £15m deal from Manchester United, as he went on to score five goals and provide nine assists across 36 Premier League appearances in his debut campaign at the City Ground.

Not even the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Phil Foden created that many goals in the Premier League last term.

Now – as rumours emerge – Nottingham Forest have a chance to sign a player similar to Anthony Elanga…

Nottingham Forest could sign Anthony Elanga 2.0 for free as Manchester United prepare to release Omari Forson

A story from the Manchester Evening News claims that Omari Forson is now set to be released by Manchester United, after the Red Devils failed to agree a new contract with the 19-year-old.

Like Elanga, the England U20 international can operate anywhere across the frontline, making appearances on the left, right and centrally throughout the 2023/24 campaign – as shown on his Transfermarkt page.

The pair also share an impressive turn of pace and directness when running at defenders.

Interestingly, Elanga and Forson actually played eight games together in the youth ranks at Old Trafford, with the latter presumably hoping to follow in the £15m man’s footsteps.

Interestingly, the Manchester Evening News believe Manchester United wanted to keep Forson – but he has rejected every contract offer as he aims for more playing time elsewhere.

The teenager made his senior breakthrough at Old Trafford last season as Erik ten Hag handed him four Premier League appearances – one of those was a start – although the opportunity is now there for another club to snap up this precocious talent for free.

Ross Wilson needs to have eyes on the free agent market

It is now a well documented fact that Nottingham Forest need to make a major sale before June 30th to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

Even once that happens, Ross Wilson must ensure he is finding value in the market where possible, to ensure Nottingham Forest avoid any further points deductions or financial issues going forward.

A wise way to navigate this situation would be to exploit the free agent market – where talents like Forson will reside this summer – among many other interesting opportunities.

For example, the likes of Wilfred Ndidi, Memphis Depay, Ryan Sessegnon, Kelechi Iheanacho, Daichi Kamada and Ben Johnson are all set to become free agents soon, so there is definitely a lot of quality to be snapped up for nothing.
