Nottingham Forest setting eagle eyes on £34m-rated versatile defender after Boss make plea

Nottingham Forest’s Steve Cooper’s Reds have joined Spurs and Newcastle United in a defensive link.

Nottingham Forest are reportedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Piero Hincapie.

The Reds have yet to make their first summer addition as they attempt to strengthen their squad for the 2023/24 season. They are looking for reinforcements in a variety of sectors, including central defense.

With that in mind, they are said to have joined the list of Premier League clubs interested in Hincapie. According to Bola VIP, they have put the 21-year-old on their list of potential targets.

Forest, on the other hand, would face heavy competition for the Ecuador international. Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United have both “set their sights” on signing him.

The price tag placed on Hincapie’s head could also be an impediment. His club is claimed to value him at around €40 million (£34 million) as their “phone continues to ring” with calls from interested parties, but head coach Xabi Alonso has begged the board not to sell him.

The Reds returned to pre-season training this week, kicking off their preparations for the upcoming season. However, despite a quiet start to the transfer market, they have yet to add any new faces to their ranks.

Steve Cooper, the club’s manager, presently has a number of centre-backs on his books. However, decisions will have to be taken on at least some of them as Forest looks to reduce its workforce to make room for newcomers.

Steve Cook has already stated that a decision on his future must be made. He was left off the 25-man roster for the second part of the season and has a year left on his contract.

Rangers are interested in Jonathan Panzo, who spent last year on loan at Coventry City. And Loic Mbe Soh, who has a contract until 2024 and has struggled to make an impact at the City Ground, could also leave.
