Nottingham Forest defender Ola Aina has suggested that one former Manchester City player was better than Mohamed Salah.
Having made 56 combined Premier League appearances for Forest as well as Fulham and Chelsea, the first of which came back in 2016 when Antonio Conte was in charge of Chelsea, the defender has played with and against a wide range of top-level players.
Now though, the Nigerian has been sharing his thoughts on some of the big-name players that have or currently do feature in the Premier League, with one former City star getting a special mention.
Aina ranks former Man City star above Salah
In a recent short shared on the Premier League’s YouTube channel, Aina was asked to blind-rank five African top-flight stars from the past and present.
After putting Salah in fifth place, the Forest defender put Yaya Toure in second place.
Once the five names were read out, Aina’s ranking saw Didier Drogba come first, then Toure, with Jay-Jay Okocha in third, Kanu fourth and Salah last.
Toure vs Salah
During his eight-year spell at the Etihad Stadium between 2010 and 2018, the midfielder made 316 appearances in all competitions, scoring 80 goals, supplying 47 assists and winning numerous trophies along the way including three Premier League titles.
With seven seasons now under his belt at Liverpool, Salah has scored 211 goals and delivered 89 assists, but won just one Premier League title, in 349 appearances across all competitions.
While both players should undoubtedly be considered two of the best players in Premier League history, it should delight a lot of City fans to see that Aina put Toure second in his blind ranking and Salah in last place.
In our view, while it’s undeniable that Toure and Salah have had big impacts at City and Liverpool respectively, it did come as a surprise that Aina put the Egyptian last in his ranking given the number of goals and assists he’s delivered for the Reds.
