Nottingham Forest target £15m-rated Bundesliga ace with serious Premier League ambitions

Latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Reds look to strengthen Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad

Austria international Marco Friedl has emerged as a new name on Nottingham Forest’s list of transfer targets this summer.

The Reds have made four signings so far this window as they look to push on in the Premier League in 2024/25. Marko Stamenic will spend the upcoming season with Olympiacos, but Carlos Miguel, Elliot Anderson and Eric da Silva Moreira will all be part of head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s squad.

Further signings are on the cards with some key areas of the pitch still in need of strengthening. Central defence is one, and it seems Friedl has been identified as a potential option to bolster the ranks.

According to The Sun, Forest have contacted representatives of the Werder Bremen centre-back. He is said to be “happy” in Germany but does have “ambitions” of one day playing in the Premier League.

Bremen are reportedly aware of the Reds’ interest in the player, and although they do not need to sell, they “would consider” doing a deal at the right price. The Bundesliga side value Friedl in the region of £10m to £15m, but could look to tie him down to a new contract amid Forest eyeing him up.

Friedl, who can also operate at left-back, has two years left to run on his current deal. He came up through the ranks at Bayern Munich before joining Bremen in 2019. He has gone on to make more than 160 appearances for the club, as well as captain the side.

The Reds have been linked with a number of centre-backs as it is an area where they are currently short on options. A £13m bid is said to have been made for Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, but reports from Italy suggest a bigger offer will be needed to prise him away.

Nuno currently has Murillo, Willy Boly, Andrew Omobamidele, Joe Worrall and Jonathan Panzo on the books. However, Worrall and Panzo are expected to head elsewhere this summer and Murillo has been the subject of much speculation.
