Nottingham Forest may offer Tyler Adams a Premier League lifeline despite Leeds United’s relegation.
Following a pair of busy transfer windows, Nottingham Forest are anticipated to be slightly quieter this summer as they attempt to reinforce what they have rather than radically restructure a group that performed well in avoiding Premier League relegation.
That is not to suggest that a lot of great players will not be joining the Reds in the coming months, with Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams the most recent to be connected with the club.
According to the Daily Mail, Forest are hoping to recruit Adams from managerless Leeds, but they may face competition from Premier League rivals Manchester United.
Jesse Marsch signed Adams from RB Leipzig for a whopping £20 million last July, but his first season at Elland Road did not go as planned as Leeds tumbled out of the top tier.
Adams was unable to duplicate the form that saw him emerge as one of the hottest talents around during his tenure at Leipzig, which was hampered by the departure of American compatriot Marsch in February.
However, the US international showed indications of potential in his debut season in English football, as evidenced by his WhoScored seasonal rating of 6.6 last season, which was higher than Ryan Yates and Danilo at Forest.
What can Tyler Adams offer Forest?
Adams also drew attention for his country at the World Cup last year, with football reporter Wes Rucker characterizing him as a “machine” for his group-stage heroics, and it appears increasingly probable that he will not be playing in the Championship next season.
That might be excellent news for Forest manager Steve Cooper, who will no likely see a lot of potential in a midfield duo of Adams and Morgan Gibbs-White, who is coming off a fantastic season.
Adams, who would be regarded a low-risk signing in the present market at a cost of roughly £13 million, demonstrated in his maiden Premier League season that he can more than hold his own in the center of the pitch.
Indeed, with 89 tackles, he was fourth in the entire division. To put that amount into context, Remo Freuler was the highest-ranked Forest midfielder on the list with 43, putting him in 110th place.
Adams (50) was also second in the Premier League last season for dribblers tackled, trailing only Joao Palhinha (71) and ranking tenth for tackles and interceptions combined (129).
There is a definite need at Forest for someone who can break up advances and bring the ball into the feet of the club’s Player of the Season, Gibbs-White, who scored five goals and provided eight assists last season. This is where Adams enters the picture.
Not only is Adams a gifted footballer, but he also demonstrated off the field last year during an awkward news conference in Qatar that he can hold his own just as well as on it, earning praise from Gary Lineker for being a “exceptionally bright young footballer” who handled the line of questioning “intelligently and gracefully.”
If Forest want a quieter transfer window this summer, they could look no further than Adams to assist offer more firepower for star man Gibbs-White.
