Nottingham Forest attempted to sign Dan Gosling in 2021, but he turned down the Reds’ efforts and is now at Notts County.
Forest manager Chris Hughton had Gosling on his radar as he attempted to rebuild his squad in the midst of a relegation scrap in 2020/21.
The seasoned midfielder was playing for Bournemouth when Forest came calling, but he turned it down.
Gosling has signed with Notts County.
When Forest approached him, Gosling selected Watford instead. The player was unconvinced by the City Ground project and declined the overtures.
It turned out to be a really bad decision. Gosling had already played under Hughton, and it’s insane to think he turned down the opportunity to join Forest.
Although the club weren’t pulling up any trees at the time, it’s still hard to believe that he didn’t head to a club that would have played him regularly.
County landed the player recently to end his long spell without a club. He’s made two outings for the Magpies so far and is now looking to kick on.been had he headed to Nottingham in 2021 instead.
Gosling must be kicking himself for not joining with Forest.
What could have been different? Gosling joined Forest at a period when the only fit midfielders were Samba Sow and Cafu, and he would have played.
If he had performed well, the club might have signed him on a permanent basis, and the Reds would have won promotion to the Premier League the following season. The rest could have been history for Gosling.
Instead, he sat out the second part of last season and had to wait until November after his release to be picked up by another club.
Now, Gosling, who should have been flaunting his thing at Forest, plays in League Two. With that in mind, he must be pining for what may have been.
