Nottingham Forest have endured a love-hate relationship with referees this season and now they could be in trouble.
The Reds have been in the news again after the recordings from the Everton game have come to light.
During that contest, Forest could have feasibly had three penalties and now Howard Webb has admitted an error on one of those incidents.
Intriguingly, Forest could still find themselves in hot water, however.
The Reds went too far after the game posting a statement about Stuart Attwell and that received criticism from Alan Shearer.
Now, after the evidence from the Everton game came to light, Dorsett has been sharing what he expects to happen to Forest.
Rob Dorsett shares what will happen to Nottingham Forest
Well, Forest appear to have made the headlines here for all the wrong reasons once again.
Now, it looks as though they will have to face the music and Evangelos Marinakis will have to be prepared to dig deep.
Dorsett was quizzed on the situation with Forest shortly after Webb spoke with Michael Owen to suggest that Attwell had made a mistake.
It would seem as though the club will face repercussions on the back of their strongly worded statement after their defeat at Everton.
Dorsett told Sky Sports: “They will face punishment. We, in the media, need to separate the incidents. It’s very clear now they were hard done by. They should’ve been given a penalty and who knows what might have happened had it been given and Nottingham Forest were fuming about it.
“This is the statement that Forest put out very soon after the final whistle. That statement has been seen over 45m times. What I think angered the FA and the Premier League was the questioning of Stuart Attwell and his integrity.
“It’s being investigated by the Premier League and by the FA and by the way Nottingham Forest. the club, their referee analyst Mark Clattenburg, Nuno Espirito Santo and Neco Williams were all asked for their observations and they have to be in by tomorrow.
“By the end of the week, those have to be submitted and I fully expect that Nottingham Forest to be charged and punished. By the way, in terms of punishment, I expect a hefty fine rather than any sort of points deductions.”
Forest must use refereeing decisions to create siege mentality
Three games to go. It’s now us vs them. There is no time to continue digging up old ground and this footage coming to light has aided nobody.
If Forest are going to be sanctioned, then what about Attwell? He will have worked on three Premier League games since this mistake, so just where is the accountability?
Webb has a huge problem staring him in the face. The Premier League for referees has become too much of a closed shop and the guys earning the top dollar know that their mistakes will go unpunished.
Nobody is saying that referees who make errors should be hung, drawn and quartered but a week – or two – doing EFL games or under-21 clashes would surely raise the standard.
Some top younger referees like Tom Bramall and Tim Robinson are getting fewer games, whilst the likes of Anthony Taylor and Attwell seem to make errors in games every single week.
The Premier League – and Webb – have a serious problem to solve and they won’t like Forest for telling it how it is.
