Sheffield United is interested in Nottingham Forest’s star midfielder

This summer, Sheffield United are interested in signing Nottingham Forest midfielder Lewis O’Brien. The player is now on loan with D.C. United and is doing well in the Major League Soccer.

The Blades want to sign O’Brien, according to The Sun. Furthermore, they believe they can get him for a low price if Forest leave him out of their team for the second half of the season.

O’Brien will remain in Washington until the end of the US season. United have games scheduled until July, which might make signing him difficult for the South Yorkshire club.

Interestingly, Sheffield United attempted to sign O’Brien on a season-long loan in January. On that occasion, the player elected to join with Blackburn, but a loan agreement fell through, leaving the 24-year-old in limbo.

O’Brien appeared 14 times for the Reds in the first half of the 2022/23 season. He signed for £10 million from Huddersfield but was inexplicably left out of the 25-man squad when it was resubmitted in January.

His future now appears to be uncertain. With Danilo coming into the midfielder in January and creating waves at the City Ground, it appears like Forest would be willing to move O’Brien.

Forest, on the other hand, will most certainly demand their money back. That could be a problem for United, as it has been reported that they would only have £20 million to spend this summer following their promotion to the Premier League.

At Huddersfield, O’Brien was managed by Carlos Corberan. In December 2021, he described him as “very special,” and he believes he will play in the Premier League for many years to come.

Forest appear to be willing to transfer the midfielder in the summer. O’Brien definitely wants to play football, and the Reds player will want to play on a regular basis.

During the summer transfer window, Forest will look for other players. This might push O’Brien even lower down the pecking order at City Ground, and a departure appears to be a definite possibility.

The Reds’ support base may want to see O’Brien get another shot. However, it is ultimately up to Steve Cooper, who plainly believes that he has better choices within the squad right now.
