In the midst of recent transfer rumours, Nottingham Forest forward Taiwo Awoniyi has revealed his admiration for Leicester City striker Kelechi Iheanacho.
Forest could be looking for another striker this summer, with Awoniyi in need of more help up front.
Chris Wood will return, but the fates of Sam Surridge and Emmanuel Dennis are uncertain.
Forest may release Dennis but then bring in another Nigerian with Iheanacho apparently on the run.
According to Own Goal Nigeria, Forest have expedited talks to capture Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho.
It is also stated that Iheanacho is set to reach a personal agreement with Forest this week.
The Foxes were relegated to the Championship, and Forest may now be looking to raid their East Midlands rivals.
Leicester paid £25 million to buy Iheanacho from Manchester City in 2017, but Forest are expected to look for a cheaper deal.
The 26-year-old’s contract expires in a year, and Forest may attempt to take advantage with a move this summer.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s move would be ideal for Taiwo Awoniyi.
Forest hitman Awoniyi would be overjoyed if Forest signed Iheanacho.
Awoniyi and Iheanacho have known each other since their youth team days with Nigeria.
They could revive their friendship in Forest shirts next season, and Awoniyi has spoken out on Iheanacho.
Awoniyi told Soccernet in Nigeria that the two used to be roommates and that he still considers Iheanacho to be his greatest friend in the Nigeria squad.
“Kelechi [Iheanacho] has been my best friend since my youth,” Awoniyi remarked. “He was my roommate at the Under-17 level, and because of our previous relationship, I always saw him as my best friend when we were on national duty,” he added.
Given their history, Iheanacho may be persuaded to join Awoniyi at Forest, giving Forest an advantage over other clubs.
Steve Cooper would then like to see Awoniyi and Iheanacho work together to produce some magic and take Forest’s attack to the next level.
