A report has revealed the staggering sum of money that Nottingham Forest pays Chris Wood each month.
The Reds signed the 31-year-old striker on loan from Newcastle during the January transfer window.
After only three games, it was announced a few weeks later that the deal had been extended.
The Daily Mail has now published an article on the current situation at Forest, making some concerning claims about Wood.
The Reds are thought to have paid £15 million to sign him on a permanent basis. This is in addition to the £4 million fee for loaning him out for the campaign.
Perhaps the most concerning aspect of all is Wood’s salary. According to the report, the man signed from Newcastle is paid a whopping £100,000 per week.
In the Premier League, the striker has proven to be a valuable option. He’s scored 55 goals in his career, but it’s safe to say his best days are behind him.
Newcastle were eager to let Wood go in January. In the pecking order, he was behind Alexander Isak and Callum Wilson, and Eddie Howe didn’t stand in his way.
This is, to put it mildly, absurd. Paying such a high price for a striker who is past his prime is absurd.
Cooper decided to try to sign Wood because the Reds needed a talisman in January.
Newcastle were eager to let him go, and Forest snatched him up before the transfer deadline.
Wood scored his first goal for the Reds against Manchester City in February, earning the team a point.
If the club wins the league by a single point this season, the experienced performer will have proven to be worth his weight in gold.
This will not appease critics who believe Wood is a waste of money, and his salary does appear to be excessive.
