Elliot Anderson was undergoing Nottingham Forest medical on Sunday morning (30 June) ahead of a move from Newcastle, sources have told Football Insider.
Newcastle accepted an offer for the 21-year-old academy graduate, which will help to satisfy their profit and sustainability concerns this month.
The deal for the midfielder will not include Anthony Elanga, despite discussions over a swap deal.
Football Insider revealed that Newcastle had talked to their rivals about offering cash plus Anderson to Forest in exchange for Elanga, with both clubs looking to raise funds ahead of the PSR deadline.
However, Forest were able to agree on a fee to see Anderson arrive without a swap taking place.
Elanga, 22, has attracted interest from Newcastle amid Liverpool’s interest in Anthony Gordon, with Football Insider reporting that the Merseyside giants are now preparing a new bid for the England wide man.

The deadline for clubs to complete any deals during the current financial year is 30 June, with the new accounting period officially beginning on 1 July.
Premier League clubs are scrambling towards the cut-off date to avoid possible breaches of financial rules with a flurry of transfer activity already underway across the division.
Anderson will now complete his move to the City Ground barring any late complications in his medical.
The midfielder joined his boyhood club aged eight and made his senior debut in 2021, making 55 appearances for the first team.
He was strongly admired by Eddie Howe, who was reluctant to see him leave, but financial concerns made the deal difficult to turn down.
Reports claim Anderson’s transfer could be worth up to £40million.
Both exits could be sealed today, securing much-needed funds for Howe’s side as they will now avoid any breaches of PSR.
Football Insider previously revealed that Newcastle would likely face a points deduction from the Premier League should any late exits fall through on 30 June.
