Sam Cassell reveals big chance in Boston Celtics title race this time

Sam Cassell has previously played on three NBA winners and served on the bench of contenders. Now, the newly hired Celtics assistant feels Boston has what it takes to win the long-awaited Banner 18.

“We’ve got a chance, man,” Cassell told Heavy Sports’ Steve Bulpett while in Las Vegas for a Celtics summer league game.

“We have a chance. You’ve got the ability. You must have both health and chemistry. They are prepared.”

The Celtics fell just short of the championship after falling to the Golden State Warriors in the 2022 NBA Finals. Boston then entered the 2022-23 season with high expectations, but failed to return to the Finals after being ousted in the Eastern Conference finals by the Miami Heat.

Celtics fans are hopeful that a stronger coaching staff surrounding Mazzulla will help the team. Cassell understands how Green Teamers feel, having been a member of the organization’s most recent title run in 2008.

“I saw how it appeared when the Celtics won their last title.” “I was on that team,” Cassell explained to Heavy. “And once we accomplish that, it’s a beautiful thing to win a championship in Boston.” It’s great to be back in The Bean, especially because you’ve previously won there. I know how enthusiastic the fans are. Boston has passionate supporters, and they only want passionate players.”

After moving Marcus Smart and Grant Williams, the Celtics will look different next season. However, Kristaps Porzingis was added to the club to complement All-NBA selections Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. They’ll have a lot on their shoulders as the season begins.

The arrival of coaches like Cassell and Charles Lee should also benefit the team. That is why many people, including Cassell, believe the Celtics are a viable title candidate.
