Celtic fans as wild celebrations spark Parkhead fan fury

Celtic fans were left raging amid the wild celebrations on the Rangers bench

Celtic fans were left fuming after Rangers players squirted water into the home fans during the wild celebrations after the winning goal at Parkhead.

It was a thriller in Glasgow’s east end as Rangers led 2-0 at half-time before a second-half fightback put Celtic level. But in front of a sizeable travelling support at this fixture for the first time in years, sub Hamza Igamane put the Ibrox side in front late on, and the resulting scenes were wild.

In the moments after the goal there was visible disruption with a police presence called upon behind Ferguson’s dugout. That came after Vaclav Cerny and Nedim Bajrami appeared to squirt water bottles in the direction of the home support, who reacted furiously.

Liam McLeod said on BBC Sportsound: “There has obviously been a problem in the main stand behind the Rangers dugout. There are police swarming around the dugout. The Celtic fans were furious with the reaction of the Rangers bench to that goal which may well have won the game.”

Sky Sports also noted the disruption in the stands as tensions boiled over after Barry Ferguson’s team scored the goal that ultimately sealed his first victory over Celtic as manager – and capped off a huge week for Gers who sunk Fenerbahce to reach the Europa League last 16 on Thursday.

Celtic remain 13 points clear at the top of the Premiership.
