The Springboks claimed a relatively comfortable victory over Scotland on Sunday, with the ‘bomb squad’ – which included Siya Kolisi – making a desired impact in the second half.

However, after the game, footage showed Kolisi had sustained a heavy knock to the face. During interviews, his left eye was almost swollen closed, and the Springbok medical team will hope there is no fracture of any sort.

At one point during the post match celebrations, Kolisi chatted to former Springbok great Bryan Habana, who joked that he looked a bit more like boxing movie character Rocky Balboa.

Kolisi was expected to return to the Springboks’ starting line-up this weekend as Rassie Erasmus is set to pick the strongest possible team to face England on Saturday.

You can see what Kolisi had to say after the Springboks’ win below:

On Sunday, Eben Etzebeth stood in as captain for the Springboks, and after the game he admitted that they didn’t have it all their own way against the Scots, who entered the weekend ranked seventh on the world rankings.

“We said from the outset Scotland are a quality team, and one of the best in the world,” said Etzebeth.

“I think (winning by) 17 points flatters us a bit. We knew it would be a grind of a match, and credit to them, they played well today.”

The Springboks will travel from Edinburgh to London on Monday and begin their on-field preparations for their clash against England on Tuesday.

Looking forward to their next assignment against England at the Allianz Stadium in London on Saturday, Erasmus said it would be a different test altogether: “Next week against England will be a different challenge as we will be facing a desperate team that come off two losses in matches they could have won.”
