Sad News: for the coach of Tennessee Titans…

Nashville, Tennessee Tee Higgins will have a harder time getting back together with Tennessee Titans coach Brian Callahan after the Bengals reportedly decided on Friday to franchise tag him. The 25-year-old native of Oak Ridge, Tennessee is expected to receive $21.8 million for the 2024 season from the Bengals if they are unable to reach an agreement on a long-term contract by March 5. Higgins’ strong play during his four seasons with the Bengals under offensive coordinator Callahan has positioned him as one of the top wide receivers on multiple free agency rankings. With this move, Higgins would remain off the open market when free agency officially kicks off on March 13, the first day of the new league year. Higgins declared that he was willing to play.

On The Sick Podcast, Higgins discussed radio row at the Super Bowl and said, “It would be good.” “Seeing my family again and then having the opportunity to play for a coach I’ve already worked with.” That would be perfect. Let us imagine that Higgins is presented with a non-exclusive offer, meaning that the Bengals will be able to match any offer he receives and he will be free to negotiate with other teams.

Higgins would be entitled to two first-round picks from the team that signs him if he signs an offer sheet and the Bengals decline to match it.

Given that the Titans are rebuilding with a new coaching staff and general manager Ran Carthon in his second season, asking Higgins for two first-round picks seems excessive.

Carthon might try to acquire Higgins through trade, but the Bengals might not be willing to part with him because they can keep Higgins this season and next. Carthon would need to present the Bengals with a very compelling trade proposal in order to have a chance to acquire Higgins.

Higgins’s chances of becoming a Titan have been severely impacted by the Bengals’ decision to tag him. It’s not looking good for him right now, but nothing is impossible.
